Preparing for 2023 kind of makes me want to laugh. Are we going to have a recession? Regulation or litigation that will change the tech industry? AI tools that destroy whole professions? All of the above? No one knows!
Whenever I have to dive into something
I’ve never done before, I first get super nervous. This part is not helpful but necessary. Then I try to scenario plan as much as I can (which may be fruitless when I have inadequate data but the process makes me feel better). Finally, I just remind myself that I’m a resilient human who has done hard things before and I take the leap.
2023 is likely to be a rollicking adventure with amazing highs and terrible lows. That seems to be the way the world works now. Let’s get ourselves and our teams ready by reminding ourselves how resilient we can be. We all got through 2020. Then we made it through 2021. And 2022. Each of those years presented different uncertainties, challenges, moments of real beauty. We lived through all of it and here we are.
When you communicate to
yourself, to your team, to your whole company this January, focus on resilience. Remind everyone what they’ve done before. Tell them that they are strong enough to thrive in the year ahead. Tell yourself too. And then laugh and dive in!
